"Foam Pads Felt Like Nothing": Why @lil_g_bnr switched to the Pyro Whiteout.

Andrew Gillespie

We sent the new Whiteout to Ghana Das (@lil_g_bnr) to see if it could actually fix the most annoying part of snowboarding: The lift exit.

Every rider knows the anxiety of a crowded lift exit. One slip, and you’re taking out the skier next to you. Traditional foam pads promise grip, but usually just deliver a wet, slippery surface that freezes over.

We sent the Giini Pyro Whiteout to Ghana Das (@lil_g_bnr) to test in the wild. No script, no constraints. We just asked: Does it actually work?

Here is the verdict.

Giini: Be honest. Did you feel safer getting off the chairlift with this than without it?

@lil_g_bnr: Before I got this product, I didn’t have a stomp pad or any sort of accessory to help me get off the lift. I often caught myself losing balance and falling. After installing [the Pyro], I felt a lot more comfortable and had way more confidence getting off the lift.

Giini: How does the grip feel compared to the standard foam pads you've tried in the past?

@lil_g_bnr: I’ve had experience with stomp pads on my older boards... and I personally didn’t feel much difference between [foam pads] and not having a stomp pad at all. With this product, you can place your boot in between the ridges and actually feel secured.

Giini: Does it look like a cheap sticker, or does it look like it belongs on the board?

@lil_g_bnr: I thought the product looked good when I installed it. It was simple, didn’t need any tools, and doesn’t make the board look weird. The adhesive held very well and felt secured on the board immediately.

Giini: The big question—when you step on it, do you actually feel your boot "lock" in?

@lil_g_bnr: When I step into the ridges, I center my boot, then move my foot back a little so the bulky front part of the boot is secured. Then I’m locked in.

Giini: If a friend asked you "is it worth $40?", what would you tell them?

@lil_g_bnr: If my friends asked if this was worth $40, I would tell them yes! It is definitely worth the bucks. I actually already have friends that struggle getting off the lift asking about the product, and it’s been catching attention on the mountain.
